Mosaic Knitting – Just Fancy Stripes – Jo Bint
Skill Expectations for this Workshop:
Knitters should be comfortable with simple knit and purl stitches and cast on/ bind off. Experience with reading charts is an asset but not required.

Location: Level 2 – Oak Room
Students must supply these materials:
- All workshop attendees will receive an exclusive cowl pattern which includes three mosaic stitch charts to allow customisation of their fabulous finished accessory.
- Participants will require fingering weight yarn in at least two contrasting colours, and needles necessary to meet stocking stitch gauge of approximately 28sts and 24 rows in 4” (10cm).
- Finished cowl will use up to 100g of main colour and 50g of contrasting colour(s).
Do you like colourwork knitting but hate carrying your floats? Did you know mosaic knitting is as easy as knitting stripes?
In this workshop, we will:
- Decide on a combination of patterns and stitches to make your cowl truly unique.
- Explore mosaic knitting technique, sometimes known as slipped stitch knitting.
- Look at some examples and discuss the limitations of these patterns and how they differ from traditional colourwork.
- Look at the differences in texture that come with combining stocking stitch and garter stitch in these charts.
- Learn how to read a mosaic chart before getting started on some swatching for practice. There will be three different mosaic charts to choose from and you will have the opportunity to try all the charts during class.
- Decide on a combination of patterns and stitches to make your cowl truly unique.
