Cables – Adding Texture and Performing Surgery (Gasp!) – Jo Bint
Skill Expectations for this Workshop:
Participants have experience with knitting cables and are confident with yarn management.
Duration: 3 hours | Capacity: 16
Location: Level 2 – Oak Room
Students must supply these materials:
- Attendees should bring sport or DK weight yarn in a single colour and needles appropriate to achieve a gauge of around 24 sts in 10cm. A spare needle or DPN, stitch holders, crochet hook and a cable needle will be helpful to have.
You’ve knitted some projects with cables and loved them. Now you want more.
We’re going to explore adding texture to your cables, both to the background and to the cables themselves. We’ll practice on a couple of simple swatches that you can use as cabled coasters when we’re finished.
Then for the fun stuff!
We’ve all done it: we’ve just discovered a mis-crossed cable 5 rows back – how do we fix it without frogging all that work? Cable surgery is easier than you think, as long as you’re prepared for it. We’ll discuss the tools needed for surgery and how to read your cables.
We’re going to practice dropping groups of stitches down a few rows and working them back up again in a cable pattern. Everything will look as good as new!
