Crafting Custom Wet-Felted Mittens – Elise Campbell
In this full-day class, you’ll create your very own custom-fitted wet-felted mittens using the ancient craft of wet felting. Participants should have completed a couple of wet felted projects. You will turn the supplied merino fibre into pair of mittens in this workshop. A rainbow of colours in extra-fine merino wool, viscose, silk, bamboo, hemp, ramie, nepps and other natural fibres will be supplied for this workshop.
Please note: students will complete one mitten in class, and finish the second pre-felted mitten on their own time.

Location: Level 1 – Souris Room
Students are asked to bring:
- Two: 20 inch x 6 foot (60cm x 180cm) small bubbles, bubble wrap. 12” wide bubble wrap* can be purchased at Canadian Tire, and taped together from the back (smooth side) using Duct tape.
- Sharp scissors
- Two large bath towels and a hand towel
- Measuring tape
- Plastic bag/large ziplock to bring home wet items in

First Session: You’ll learn to measure, draw, and cut a personalized resist, allowing you to create the perfect size for your mittens. You will also learn how to lay out wool around your resist and explore adding design elements such as vibrant colors, patterns, and specialty fibers like viscose, silk or bamboo.
Second Session: It will be dedicated to felting your mittens, including techniques to make them strong, durable, and weather-resistant. You’ll also learn the finishing touches that will make your mittens not only functional but beautiful and long-lasting.
The skills you gain in this workshop will enhance your felting toolbox and increase your confidence. Best of all, your resist is reusable, meaning you can create as many pairs of mittens as you want in the future. By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a handmade, custom pair of mittens that will keep you warm for years to come—and the skills to continue creating your own felted accessories at home.
