Duration: 3 hours | Capacity: 20
Location: Level 2 – Spruce Room
Mittens are an infinitely interesting project for knitters, no matter their level. Whether you’d like to make warm mittens for shovelling, dress mittens for your best coat, fingerless mitts for fall days or an everyday pair for a child, you can make mittens without a pattern. We’ll look at three thumbs, options for tops and all the structures I can think of, and you’ll leave with a mitten started (and maybe finished) and a pattern that’s just what you want it to be.
Students must supply these materials and Homework:
- Supplies: about 100m of a smooth, solid and light coloured worsted weight yarn, a set of dpns (or two circulars) that gives you a gauge of about 20 stitches to 10cm with that yarn, and your standard notions kit. You’ll also need: a darning needle, a crochet hook appropriate for the yarn, and a pair of scissors or snips.
- Homework: Knit (and wash) a small gauge swatch.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- How to knit a pair of mittens without a pattern
- How to change a mitten pattern so you like it better
