Fibre & Felt at Island Hill Farm – A Hands-on Farm Workshop – Flory Sanderson
This workshop is ideal for those looking to learn, create, and experience the charm of a working farm in a warm and welcoming setting.
Duration: 3.5 hours | Capacity: 38
Location: Island Hill Farm
Join us for a delightful, hands-on workshop at Island Hill Farm, where creativity meets the rhythms of life on a working farm. Your experience begins with an interactive guided visit, where you’ll meet our animals, explore daily farm life, and learn how the farm operates through the seasons.
You’ll then be introduced to the different types of natural fibre produced on the farm and discover how animal fibre is transformed from fleece to finished goods. From there, you’ll take part in a guided felting experience, creating a felted cover for one of Island Hill Farm’s luxury soap bars, handcrafted right here on the farm.
Each participant will take home their beautiful, functional creation—a lasting keepsake filled with texture, scent, and meaning—along with happy memories and a deeper connection to farm life.
Guests will also have ample time to explore the farm at their own pace, browse our farm shop, wander through the gardens, and enjoy a specialty coffee or sweet treat from our café (available for purchase). It’s the perfect opportunity to slow down, soak in the surroundings, and fully enjoy everything Island Hill Farm has to offer.
In this workshop, you will experience and learn:
- Where natural fibre comes from and meet the animals that produce it on our farm.
- How raw fleece is cleaned and prepared for use.
- The basics of turning fibre into something you can craft with.
