Perfecting Mittens with a Rounded Gusset – Robyn Oakes
Maximum participants: 20
The rounded gusset mitten is designed to fit the natural curve of your hand, making them fit like a… glove (Bonus: you knit the thumb before the hand, so you get that out of the way!) But if you’ve ever hesitated because your colourway didn’t turn out right, or the cable up the back of the mitten was offside – this class is for you! I’ve taken all the guess work out, done the math calculations and made it simple to follow! Trust me – you will never knit mittens another way again!
I will provide the pattern, notes and special instructions. You will be able to knit a rounded gusset mitten in any size, with four weights of yarn!
If you want to try it while we are together you will need to bring the following:
- Mitten cuff: 4mm double point needles, dk or light worsted weight yarn. Cast on 36 stitches. Join in the round and do your favourite ribbing for 3” OR
- 5mm double point needles, Aran or worsted weight yarn. Cast on 32 stitches. Join in the round and do your favourite ribbing for 3”

As a busy wife, mom 💗💙💙, and Grammy 💗💗there are always people to knit for! I have always loved knitting and just this past August my ultimate dream of owning my own LYS came true – Close Knit Friends Yarn Shop!! Some of my favourite things to knit are socks and mittens, and I really love to play with patterns and textures. My absolute favourite find was the rounded gusset. Let me help you take the mystery out of knitting it, give you the secret to keeping patterns in sequence and the breakdown for any size mitten! I can’t wait to share this perfect fit mitten with you!!
