Circular Knitting Bag of Tricks – Patty Lyons

Patty digs deep into her bag of tricks to show you some of her favourite circular knitting hacks. Patty has some truly unique UNventions that will make your circular knitting sing. Learn how to make a completely jog free cast on and bind off, as well as some truly magical jogless joins, including Patty’s closed ring single stripe. There will be tips to avoid ladders from dpns and the weird tight stitch at the magic loop turn and so much more. We’ll even learn a trick for jogless Fair Isle! Finally, Patty will introduce you a faster way to swatch in the round, AND (extra credit, if time allows), even tricks to working W&T and German short rows in the round without the icky hole. Get ready to kick your circular knitting up to the next level.
NOTE: Must be comfortable working in a small circumference on magic loop, 2 circs or dpns without supervision.
Required Skills:
Must know long tail cast on and how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off. Familiarity with Magic Loop, 2 circs or dpn required. Should be comfortable working a small circumference without assistance.
Materials List:
Yarn: Any smooth worsted to bulky weight yarn (color A), 2 small balls of contrasting yarn (colour B & C).
OPTIONAL: empty circular needle and small ball of yarn.
Needles & Notions: Needles appropriate to yarn to work a small circumference (36 – 40” circular for magic loop, 2 circs or dpns), scissors or yarn cutter, tapestry needle, stitch marker.
Homework: Cast on 30 stitches, do not join.

PATTY LYONS (http://pattylyons.com/) is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the “why” not just the “how” in her pursuit of training the “mindful knitter”. She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking.
