Prince Edward Islanders have been creating and hooking handmade rugs for more than 100 years. In the past decade rug hooking has seen phenomenal growth. Although many continue to hook the traditional mats, like their grandmother’s did, many are creating wall hangings and other hooked objects using a wide range of fibres and styles. The Prince Edward Island Fibre Festival is delighted to showcase the work of Island Rug Hookers at this year’s PEI Fibre Festival.
The Celebrating Island Rug Hookers show is not to be missed. It brings together the work of traditional and non-traditional Island rug hookers. Visitors will see everything from primitive rug hooking to fine shading; from large and small pieces; to explosions of colour and fibres of every description. Quite simply, the art they create is a stunning and unique display of talent.
Be sure to visit the show and view their art.
