- Doors for the marketplace floor will open at 9am both days and you, along with any of your guests who have badges, have free access to the marketplace.
- Andrea and Madeleine Doig, also known as Fruity Knitting and well-known podcasters will be here during the Festival and may wish to interview you for future broadcast.
- We hope you will hang out at some of the events and Marketplace so that participants can chat with you.
1. What other instructors will be attending?
Participating instructors are listed on the Festival website: https://peifibrefestival.com/workshops-lectures/
2. What about the setup and teardown for my room?
All instructors received a form a few months ago that asked about room and audio-visual setup. We are working with the hotel and audio-visual provider to ensure that your room is setup as you requested or as closely as possible to your request.
If someone else is coming into your room after you for another workshop, please pick your stuff up as soon as possible after you are done as there is limited time at lunch time to setup for new instructors.
3. How do I know who is coming to my workshop or presentation?
If your workshop or presentation has fewer than 25-30 participants, you will be given an envelope with name tags, markers and a list of participants that have purchased tickets for your workshop or presentation. We will have roaming volunteers to assist you with this if you have any questions.
If your event has more than 30 participants, we will have a volunteer scan for tickets at the door of your assigned room. We will not have name tags for these events except for the Fibre Fan Lounges.
4. Who do I pay for boxed lunches and what are my payment options?
PEI Fibre Festival: You will need to pay the PEI Fibre Festival for boxed lunches by e-transfer to [email protected]. Box lunch options include either a roast beef, a chicken salad or a vegetarian sandwich along with a piece of whole fruit, one cookie, one square and coffee or tea. The cost is $25 including taxes and will be delivered to your workshop room. Please note your choice of sandwich and beverage when sending the etransfer.
5. Who will be there to help during the festival?
The two coordinators will be on site all weekend to assist with anything you may need. We will also have an extensive team of volunteers. They will be wearing a PEI Fibre Festival badge identifying them as volunteers.
6. Can I attend the Fibre Fan Lounges, Ceilidh, Hullabaloo and workshops?
You may attend but it’s all first-come, first-served. These are all ticketed events. Tickets are available online.
7. What is going on next door?
Beside the PEI Fibre Festival in the Convention Centre is PEI Beer Fest. This is a local beer show that happens every year, it is a great way to try many local breweries. PEI Beer Fest starts at 6pm on Friday and is contained in its own area. If you plan to attend PEI Beer Fest, a separate ticket will need to be purchased through their website: https://beerfestpei.com/
8. What else is going on?
The Festival weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year in Charlottetown.
Besides the Fibre Festival and the Beer Fest, there will be the first Street Feast only 10 minutes away. For more information see: https://www.discovercharlottetown.com/events/street-feast/
September is also home to the PEI Fall Flavours Festival, see: https://fallflavours.ca/
On Sunday morning, Queen Street, steps from the doors of the Delta, is closed for a craft and flea market.
9. Is the venue mobility accessible?
Yes, the Delta is accessible with a ramp and elevators. To get to the Convention Center you will have to take the ramp through the Delta main entrance and go right to the attached Convention Center.
10. Where can I park?
The Delta offers underground parking for $19 + tax per day. There is very limited street parking in the area.
11. Where should I eat in the area?
Due to Delta regulations no outside food is allowed onsite. Delta does have an onsite restaurant called Water’s Edge, open daily from 6:30am-11pm.
The Festival team would like to suggest restaurants but there are over 35 food establishments within 10 walking minutes of the Delta and reservations are strongly recommended for most of them as the City will be busy as we noted earlier. Charlottetown is a foodie destination that is fed by the fact that the Culinary Institute of Canada, which trains world class chefs, is in the city.
All Festival Participants will be given access to a virtual delegate bag by Meetings and Conventions PEI with tons of information. However, if you have a particular request, ask Linda, one of the Festival coordinators, for assistance.
12. What type of transit exists in the area?
PEI does not have Uber but there is a small ride sharing service called Kari. There are many cab companies such as: Yellow, Co-op & City Taxi. PEI cabs do not use meters, they have zones and know the route. They will gladly show you the pricing chart if you are unsure. We also have public transit; the routes and information can be found at: https://t3transit.ca.
13. What is around the market that I can walk to?
The Delta Convention Centre is in the heart of downtown Charlottetown, right on the waterfront. Out front on the water you will see our 2022 sign, great for that perfect photo-op. On the Northeast side of the Convention Center, you have one of our marinas with Peakes Quay, a floating dock with great food, drinks, and some shopping. To the Southwest of the Convention Centre you will find Victoria Park a short walk away. There is a boardwalk with historic war time cannons, a large playing area for children, and Downtown’s only lighthouse.
14. What are PEI local dishes?
PEI is known for agriculture and seafood. Try the best fish & chips, oysters on the half shell, and of course a lobster roll. We are also known for strawberries/blueberries, potatoes, Island beef, and fresh produce. Try one of our local beers, ciders and wines.
